Summer Smiles: Dental Care Tips for Traveling During National Smile Month

As the sun begins to blaze and the days grow longer, it can only mean one thing: summer is upon us! (Either that’s a big yay or a big nay over here in St. Pete, Florida!)

And what better time to celebrate our pearly whites than during National Smile Month? This annual observance serves as a reminder of the importance of oral health and the impact it has on our overall well-being. But let's face it, keeping up with dental care while on the go can sometimes feel like the last thing you want to worry about.

Here’s five simple dental travel tips to keep those smiles healthy and bright even when galavanting around this summer:

  1. Packing: First things first, don't forget to pack your dental essentials. Toothbrush, check (travel size is helpful!). Toothpaste, check. And floss — don’t forget the floss!

  2. Keep up your regular routine. Just like you would with your skin care or makeup routine, dental care routines shouldn’t take a break, even if you are.

  3. Hydration: Summer adventures often involve long days under the sun, which means staying hydrated is key. Not only does it benefit your overall health, but it also helps keep your oral health in good shape.

  4. Snack Smart: We’re not saying not to enjoy all the food and treats on vacation, but swishing some water after eating will help any build-up of plaque or staining from a few glasses of wine.

  5. Dental Emergencies: Sometimes, things happen. Keep your dentist’s number handy if you happen upon a dental emergency when you’re out of town! They’ll have the guidance and possible recommendations you need if anything unexpected happens. (Dr. Moccia at Sunshine City Dentistry in St. Pete, FL is accepting new patients!)

So, pack your bags, hit the road, and don't forget to make plenty of memories you can smile about later!
